Users upgrading Crash Magic Online would frequently be required to upgrade new objects in the master shared user. An upgrade of the master shared objects would require the server administrator to log into Crash Magic to add new objects. This process would be in addition to any configuration changes that would be required for import by the Crash Magic Group Admin.

As of Crash Magic Online version 2.13 or higher updating the master shared user objects is done during the install process without logging into the Crash Magic web site.

Before beginning an upgrade of Crash Magic Online, Ensure that you have completed the following:

  • Contact Pd' Programming to get a license key for the new version of the software.
  • Download the latest Crash Magic Online MSI.
  • Confirm that users are not logged into the system. This will ensure that users do not loose items that they are currently working on.
  • Confirm that the current database drivers are installed on the server.

Installing the new software on the server:

  1. Stop the Crash Magic Online service, or if you are running under IIS stop the Crash Magic application pool.
  2. Run the new msi for Crash Magic.
  3. Follow the instructions of the msi during the install.
  4. At the end of the install you should be presented with the Crash Magic Configuration Editor screen.

Add the new license key:

  1. If the Crash Magic configuration editor screen is not open, then select Crash Magic configuration editor under Start/Programs/Pd Magic.
  2. Click on your configuration name displayed in the area on the left.
  3. Enter the new license key into the key box under the Registration tab.

Check for database schema updates. (A server that is not running current database drivers may generate an error during this process. The drivers must be updated before proceeding.):

  1. Click on the SYS Database tab.
  2. Click the Maintain Database button.
  3. If database schema updates are required the status box at the bottom of the Crash Magic Configuration - Database Maintenance window shows red when the updates are needed, and the first line will read "Schema matches: False".
  4. Upgrades that require schema changes should proceed to the article Upgrading the Crash Magic Online system tables
  5. When the status box at the bottom of the Crash Magic Configuration - Database Maintenance window shows green, and the first line will read "Schema matches: True" proceed to the next step.

Check for updates to the master shared user:

  1. This step assumes that you have the Crash Magic configuration editor open, and your configuration is selected.
  2. Click on the SYS Database tab.
  3. Click on the Maintain Database button to open the Database Maintenance window.
  4. Click on the Updates tab.
  5. Click the view system updates.
  6. Any required updates will be displayed with a check box.

Update the master shared user.

  1. Click on the check box next to "A new master config needs to be imported".
  2. Click the Update button.
  3. Click the OK button when complete.
  4. Click the Close button to close the system update window.
  5. Click the Done button to close the Database Maintenance window.
  6. Select File/Exit to close the Crash Magic configuration editor.
  7. Click Yes to save the changes that you have made to the editor.
  8. Restart the service or application pool running Crash Magic.
